Illumin8 Media are keen to contribute to ongoing efforts to make sure that

media activities pay as much attention to the environment and sustainability

agenda as possible. Sustainable development means meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As such, Illumin8 Media seeks to work with all relevant

stakeholders in the industry to collectively minimise negative environmental impacts of filming and associated activities.

For production companies, a variety of green film toolkits, guides and

standards have been developed that we are keen to help be implemented. We support all productions in their efforts to meet sustainability targets and have worked on productions that have secured BAFTA’s ‘Albert’ accreditation.

There are several areas in which we are able to reduce the environmental

impact of our lighting and media activities:

• Use and choice of lights

We will work with the production, director and DOP to suggest the most

environmentally friendly lighting set-up. We have substantial stock of LED lights which are significantly more efficient. We adopt best practices such as turning off lights when not in use.

• Powering of lights

The sourcing of electricity is generally the choice of the production and

we support the use of green electricity sources (in line with the BBC

ambition of purchasing over 95% of electricity from green power

sources). We endeavour to run as much of the lighting from mains

source to be able to use these green sources, simultaneously trying to

minimise the use of generators or where absolutely necessary use biodiesel, to supply electricity on location.

• Recycling

Illumin8 Media has recycling facilities at our warehouse/office location

and we have arrangements in place for the recycling of all electrical

equipment (in compliance with WEEE regulations, 2013).

• Transport

Illumin8 Media seeks to reduce the miles travelled by crew on

productions. We have a policy of using lighting crew from as

geographically proximate as possible to the production. We also share

vehicles when travelling between filming sites and are building up a fleet

of fully electric vehicles.

• Paperfree

Illumin8 Media is a completely paperfree company. All equipment lists,

stock taking, invoicing and billing are paperless as well as other office

administrative tasks.
